Romanian authorities issued an “Extreme Alert” on Tuesday, urging residents in five northeastern counties, including Suceava and Iasi, to take shelter after drones were reported near the country’s border with Ukraine.

Axar.az reports, citing Romanian media, that the RO-Alert warning said there was a possibility of objects falling from the airspace and advised residents to seek shelter in basements or civil protection shelters, or stay indoors away from windows and exterior walls.

The alert was issued for an estimated 90 minutes.

Iasi International Airport temporarily suspended flights following the alert.

Romania has recorded at least 25 unauthorized drone incursions into its airspace and territorial waters this year, three times more than during the same period in 2025. Romanian F-16s and NATO aircraft have been scrambled repeatedly, while Romanian authorities shot down three drones in July.
