Poland expects Russia to target border crossings with Ukraine

Poland expects Russia could target border crossings with Ukraine as Moscow seeks to disrupt trade routes and weaken Ukraine’s economy, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Thursday.

Axar.az reports, citing Reuters, that speaking in Bratislava, Tusk said Polish and Ukrainian authorities had overnight prevented a direct threat to one of Poland’s border crossings.

“Last night, thanks to cooperation between our services and their Ukrainian counterparts, a direct threat to one of the border crossings was averted,” Tusk said.

He added that Russia had already carried out provocative attacks on border crossings, citing an incident in Moldova.

“We expect similar actions targeting border crossings with Ukraine in other countries, including Poland,” Tusk said.

Tusk also said he had received a “fairly precise report” from the CIA about possible developments in the coming months and warned that Poland and other European countries should prepare for various scenarios along NATO’s eastern flank.
