US strikes IRGC boats attempting to seize Navy drone

The U.S. military destroyed two Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attempted to seize a U.S. Navy unmanned surface vessel.

Axar.az reports that, according to Axios, the boats were struck near Kargan and Larak Island in Hormozgan province. Iranian officials said several fishermen were missing and search-and-rescue operations were underway.

A U.S. official told Axios that the IRGC used the boats in an attempt to capture the naval drone, which was conducting patrols in the strait. After identifying the attempt, a U.S. drone fired two missiles at the boats, destroying them and killing most of those on board.

U.S. Central Command spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins confirmed the incident, saying Iranian boats had attempted to take possession of a U.S. unmanned surface vessel but were unsuccessful after a U.S. response.
