Bill Gates calls for global plan to manage AI transition

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has warned that the rapid development of artificial intelligence could trigger major social and economic disruption, urging governments to create national and international frameworks to manage the transition.

Axar.az reports, citing Gates Notes, that Gates said AI could become “the greatest equalizer ever invented” or “the worst source of injustice,” depending on how it is deployed. He warned that millions of jobs could disappear, particularly in entry- and mid-level positions, while AI could also increase cybercrime, fraud, disinformation and other threats.

"In terms of equity, AI will either be the greatest equalizer ever invented, or the worst source of injustice. The challenge is monumental. Even under the best circumstances, the transition to this new AI era will be one of the most turbulent times in human history," Gates noted.

He said governments, businesses, educators and civil society must work together to ensure AI’s benefits are shared broadly, warning that the technology requires an “unprecedented global response.”
