Sweden has summoned Iran’s ambassador to the Foreign Ministry following what the government described as Iranian security-threatening activities in and against Sweden.

Axar.az reports, citing Swedish media, that Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said the ambassador was called in to discuss measures aimed at protecting Swedish citizens and other Swedish interests.

A member of staff at the Iranian Embassy has also been ordered to leave Sweden over activities deemed incompatible with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

"The official has been asked to leave the country due to activities that are not compatible with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the government wrote.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer said Iran had targeted opponents of the Iranian regime as well as Jewish and Israeli interests in Sweden, including through criminal networks.
