Yerevan is trying to seize by force enterprises in Armenia in which Russia has invested billions of dollars, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said.

Axar.az reports, citing Armenian media, that Shoigu said Russia had rescued Armenia from an economic and energy crisis in the 1990s, while during the decade of the country’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, its economy tripled in size.

Shoigu added that despite this, the government of Nikol Pashinyan is pursuing a policy of severing ties with Russia and strengthening cooperation with the West.

“An unfriendly treatment and blatant double standards are being applied to Russian business operating in Armenia. What is happening to enterprises and entire sectors [in Armenia] in which Russia has invested billions [of dollars] is difficult to call anything other than a ‘raider seizure,” Sergei Shoigu added.

According to the Russian Security Council secretary, Yerevan is also putting forward “blatantly absurd” arguments, such as the claim that Armenia would lose the opportunity to integrate into international railway networks if Russia continued to manage Armenia’s railways.
