Ukraine and Romania have opened a new international border crossing in Zakarpattia, called “Bila Tserkva – Sighetu Marmatiei.”

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian media, that the crossing was opened under a Ukrainian government resolution adopted on September 17. It will operate around the clock for passenger vehicles with a maximum permitted weight of up to 3.5 tonnes.

The new crossing is expected to handle up to 700 vehicles per day.

The facility currently uses temporary infrastructure. After construction of a bridge over the Tysa River and completion of the border complex, it will also be able to accommodate passenger buses and freight vehicles.

The new route is intended to reduce traffic on roads in Zakarpattia’s border areas. It will complement, rather than replace, the existing Solotvyno–Sighetu Marmatiei crossing, which will continue operating around the clock at Romania’s request.
