The US State Department has approved a possible $2.68 billion Foreign Military Sale to Ukraine for air defense upgrades and related equipment and services.

Axar.az reports, citing the State Department, that the proposed package would be financed through European contributions and US Foreign Military Financing appropriated during the previous administration.

The requested equipment includes S-300 clone missiles, GAM-67 missiles, extended-range air defense laser-guided rocket systems, mobile launchers, counter-drone radars, radar mast trailers, spare parts, software and other support equipment.

The package also includes engineering, technical, logistics, transportation and maintenance services provided by the US government and contractors.

The State Department said the proposed sale would strengthen Ukraine’s ability to respond to current and future threats and conduct self-defense and regional security missions.

According to the notification, the sale would not alter the basic military balance in the region or adversely affect US defense readiness.
