Poland has joined a European coalition focused on developing joint capabilities to counter ballistic missile threats, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Friday.

Axar.az reports, citing Kyiv Post, that the initiative includes France, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark and Sweden, alongside Ukraine and now Poland.

Tusk said Poland’s absence from the coalition’s initial launch in Paris in July was the result of a “misunderstanding.” He added that Polish defense companies are examining ways to contribute to the initiative.

"Now it is clear that Poland will also be part of this initiative," Tusk said.

Zelensky said Poland would be welcomed as a partner and expressed confidence that the coalition would develop a European ballistic missile defense capability.

The announcement came during talks between the two leaders in Ukraine as part of a new regional cooperation format known as the Carpathian Eight.
