Rezaei warns Iran may quit NPT over US, Israeli actions

Iran has warned that it could withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), while saying it has not yet made a decision to do so.

Axar.az reports that Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, in an interview with Al Jazeera, said Iran was prepared for what he described as a “decisive war” and warned that Iranian forces could target US bases and interests in the region in the event of an attack.

“We remain committed to the fatwa of the martyred leader of the revolution and have not changed our nuclear doctrine, but we do not know what will happen in the future. The actions of the United States and Israel give us the right to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). However, we have not yet made any decision to withdraw from the NPT, and making such a decision entirely depends on Washington’s behavior,” Rezaei said.

He also said Iran was in contact with a Qatari mediator who had conveyed Tehran’s conditions to Washington for ending the war. These conditions include ending the war on all fronts, the release of Iran’s frozen assets and an end to the naval blockade.

He also accused US President Donald Trump of making a miscalculation over Iran and said Israel had initiated the war.
