Turkiye awaits response to Black Sea security proposal

Turkiye is awaiting responses from Russia and Ukraine to a proposal aimed at reducing attacks and protecting maritime activity in the Black Sea, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish broadcaster NTV, that Fidan said Ankara had submitted the proposal to both sides amid renewed attacks in the Black Sea.

“We have sent a proposal to both sides and are awaiting a response. If the grain harvested from the fields does not reach world markets, we see that many countries will again face difficulties in terms of food security,” Fidan said.

He said the previous agreement had eventually collapsed, although a de facto system continued to function for some time.

"Over the past few years, we actually reached an agreement, and that agreement was later broken. But despite the agreement being broken, there was a de facto system that continued to function, and they did not interfere with it. Now they are interfering with each other extensively. They are particularly striking ports and disrupting all maritime activity," he added.
