US warns citizens over rising Middle East tensions

The United States has warned its citizens about the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, citing the risk of rapid escalation and travel disruptions.

Axar.az reports that the US State Department issued the warning in a post on its official TravelGov X account.

“Due to tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation. Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance and be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions,” the statement said.

The State Department warned of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures, and other travel disruptions. It said Iranian-supported Houthis had engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks involving civilian airports.

"Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including civilian airports. This military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly. Americans outside the Middle East should seriously reconsider travel to and through the region. Those who do travel to or from the region should monitor information about airport and airline operations," it added.

The department also warned that US diplomatic facilities and other US interests overseas could be targeted by Iran or groups supporting Iran.

"U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions," the statement continued.

Warnings were issued by U.S. embassies across the region, including in Israel, Oman, Lebanon, Iraq, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
