North Korea launches projectiles toward East Sea

North Korea fired an additional unidentified projectile toward the East Sea on Sunday, hours after launching a short-range ballistic missile.

Axar.az reports, citing Yonhap, that the first missile was launched from the Wonsan area at around 3 p.m. and flew approximately 450 kilometers. South Korean and US intelligence authorities are conducting further analysis of the launch.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said it was closely monitoring North Korea’s activities and maintained the capability to respond to any provocations under the South Korea-US combined defense posture.

The launches came amid growing criticism from Pyongyang of US-led military exercises in the region. North Korea has condemned the Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise between South Korea and the US, as well as the trilateral Freedom Edge drills involving Japan.

South Korea’s National Security Office convened an emergency security meeting following the latest launch and urged Pyongyang to immediately halt such military actions.

The NSO said North Korea’s ballistic missile launches violate UN Security Council resolutions banning its nuclear and missile development.
