Poland is expanding its civil protection and emergency warning systems, particularly in regions bordering Ukraine, Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski said.

Axar.az reports, citing Poland’s Ministry of Interior and Administration, that special drills on responding to emergency sirens and warnings were held at more than 500 fire stations in the Lublin and Subcarpathian regions.

Kierwinski said nearly 3,000 civil protection training events had been held across Poland, involving around 630,000 people. He said the government was strengthening the warning system amid the changing security situation on Poland’s eastern border.

According to the ministry, the number of remotely activated sirens in the Lublin region has increased from about 30 in early 2024 to nearly 350, with more than 1,000 expected by the end of 2026.

Authorities have also identified about 3,500 designated shelter points in the region, including 25 fully operational shelters and 124 hiding places verified by the State Fire Service and construction authorities.

The ministry said a nationwide project would mark around 85,000 civil protection facilities by the end of the year.
