Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for reform of the UN Security Council, saying the current structure does not adequately reflect the will of the international community.

Axar.az reports, citing Anadolu, that during his address to the 81st UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, Erdogan said the United Nations could regain public trust only through meaningful reforms and praised the efforts of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, including the UN80 Initiative. He also called for the reform process to continue under the next secretary-general.

"Let us acknowledge that a structure in which the will of more than 190 countries is dependent on the whims of five countries is neither fair nor capable of fully establishing trust. The Security Council must be reformed based on the principle that ‘the world is bigger than five,' Erdogan said.
