Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Axar.az reports that Sharif stated on his X that the two sides reaffirmed the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Iran and their shared desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the regional situation. Sharif said Pakistan was deeply concerned about the prolonged conflict and stressed the need for restraint, de-escalation and sustained diplomacy.

He said Pakistan remained committed to building on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and would continue to play a constructive role in efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.

“I deeply value President Pezeshkian’s commitment to Pakistan-Iran friendship and our close coordination for regional peace at this critical juncture,” Sharif said.
