U.S. President Donald Trump said he and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the war in Iran during their meeting at the White House on Friday.

Axar.az reports, citing CNN, that Trump confirmed the discussion when asked by a reporter during a tour of the National Archives with Xi.

"We did,” Trump said.

Asked whether they had made progress on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, where disruptions linked to the war have driven up global energy costs, Trump said, “I think we’re going to do great.”

US Ambassador to China David Perdue told CNBC in an interview that Trump has made US interests regarding Iran very clear to China in recent weeks, including during his latest meeting with Xi Jinping.

"We made it very clear to them weeks ago that, you know, any help that they would give Iran, whether it would be direct or indirect, whether it would be intelligence or parts or military equipment, was totally unacceptable,” Perdue said.

"Trump made that very clear again yesterday. This is an ongoing drumbeat that we have made very clear to them,” Perdue added.
