Russia says a comprehensive solution is needed to ensure security in the Black Sea, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

Axar.az reports, citing TASS, that Peskov confirmed Turkiye had put forward proposals on Black Sea security.

"The Turkish side did indeed put forward proposals [on ensuring security in the Black Sea], but there are no substantive talks on this issue," Peskov said.

He said attacks by Ukraine on Russian merchant vessels and tankers, including foreign-flagged ships, had prompted retaliatory actions by Russia.

Peskov added that ensuring maritime security would require complex negotiations and a comprehensive agreement rather than separate measures.
