Lithuania and Poland are developing an international evacuation plan for the possible cross-border evacuation of residents from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Centre said.

Axar.az reports, citing Delfi, that the countries are currently assessing procedures, logistics and infrastructure needed to manage a large flow of evacuees across the border.

National Crisis Management Centre director Vilmantas Vitkauskas said Lithuania already has a domestic evacuation plan, while the international plan is being developed jointly with Poland.

“We have an international dimension to evacuation: what will happen if it becomes necessary to evacuate a certain part of the population of Lithuania, as well as neighboring Latvia and Estonia, across the border,” Vitkauskas said.

He said the plan would address transport routes, traffic flows, road capacity and infrastructure needs, including the possible reinforcement of bridges and organization of one-way traffic for people leaving and entering the country.
