The United States and Iran are continuing discussions through mediators, with the talks described as positive and constructive, but no agreement will be reached unless the nuclear issue is addressed, a US official said.

Axar.az reports, citing CBS News, that the official said President Donald Trump was prepared to offer Iran sanctions relief and release frozen funds if Tehran makes concrete progress on nuclear issues.

Iran has indicated that it is willing to show flexibility on nuclear matters, but the two sides remain divided over the timing of commitments and which side should take the first steps.

The official also said Washington remained skeptical of Iran’s assurances after Tehran violated a memorandum of understanding by firing on commercial vessels.

According to the official, the US is seeking assurances that Iran is serious about reaching an agreement.
