Trade between Iran and Azerbaijan increased over the past six months despite challenges caused by the war, Iran’s Roads and Urban Development Minister Farzaneh Sadegh said.

Axar.az reports, citing IRNA, that Sadegh made the remarks following a meeting of the heads of the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission in Tehran, attended by Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev.

Sadeq said the two sides reviewed previously reached agreements and progress in implementing their commitments.

She said Iran was determined to advance the Jolfa-Kalaleh road-widening project, which could increase transport capacity and boost bilateral trade.

Mustafayev said cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran was developing in various sectors despite regional tensions, adding that closer ties with Iran remained a priority for Azerbaijan.

He said the meeting covered trade, logistics, transportation and energy, as well as the prospects for further cooperation.

Mustafayev also highlighted growing bilateral trade and increased freight traffic along the International North-South Transport Corridor.

He said joint projects in various fields were progressing and that the latest developments had been reviewed during the meeting.

The Azerbaijani deputy prime minister added that Baku was interested in expanding relations and cooperation with Tehran.
