Georgia plans to seek the OSCE chairmanship in 2027, but the European Union opposes Tbilisi’s candidacy, Brussels-based outlet Rapporteur reported.

Axar.az informs according to the report, Cyprus is the official candidate for the post and is backed by the EU. However, Turkiye is blocking its candidacy, leaving the issue of the OSCE’s future chairmanship unresolved.

EU spokesperson Christian Wigand confirmed to the outlet that Brussels continues to support the Republic of Cyprus and is not considering alternative candidates. According to Rapporteur, the Baltic states are particularly active in opposing Georgia’s candidacy.
