Russia has extended its ban on diesel exports by fuel producers until October 31, the government said Wednesday.

Axar.az reports, citing The Moscow Times, that the measure was introduced to maintain stability in the domestic fuel market amid increased demand during the harvest season.

Russia has repeatedly restricted gasoline and diesel exports since the summer amid rising fuel prices and shortages linked in part to Ukrainian drone attacks on oil refineries.

Several Russian regions have recently reintroduced fuel rationing measures as gasoline and diesel shortages persist.

The average price of gasoline in Russia has risen 21% since the beginning of the year, reaching 78.51 rubles ($3.39) per liter as of September 14, according to official data.

A separate ban on diesel exports by non-producers remains in effect until January, while restrictions on jet fuel exports run through November. A total ban on gasoline exports is also in place until January.

Russia’s Federal Anti-Monopoly Service said Wednesday it was investigating 58 suspected cases of price gouging by independent fuel stations amid the shortages.
