Russia orders Hungarian diplomats to leave country

Russia has ordered a group of employees of the Hungarian Embassy in Moscow and Hungary’s Consulates General in St. Petersburg and Kazan to leave the country within two weeks.

Axar.az reports, citing local media, that according to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s press service, the decision was made in retaliation for Hungary’s demand that Russian diplomatic personnel leave the country. The move was communicated to Hungary’s chargé d’affaires in Russia, Gabor Gergics.

“On October 1, Hungarian Chargé d’Affaires in the Russian Federation G. Gergics was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. A strong protest was lodged with the head of the diplomatic mission over the unfounded and openly unfriendly demand by the Hungarian authorities that a number of Russian diplomatic personnel leave the country,” the ministry said.
