Iran summons British ambassador over Fairford allegations

Iran has summoned British Ambassador to Tehran Hugo Shorter and lodged a formal protest over accusations linking Tehran to a sabotage plot at RAF Fairford in the UK.

Axar.az reports, citing ISNA, that Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi conveyed Iran’s protest to the British ambassador.

Takht-Ravanchi rejected claims linking Iran to the sabotage plot and demanded an official explanation and correction from the British government.

He also accused Britain of supporting US and Israeli military actions against Iran by providing military bases and facilities under its jurisdiction.

Shorter said he would convey Iran’s protest to London.

British police are investigating a plot targeting RAF Fairford, where US forces operate. Five British nationals were arrested near the base on September 27 and later released on bail while remaining under investigation. Police have said they are examining possible foreign-state involvement but have not publicly attributed the incident to Iran.

Iran has previously denied any involvement in the Fairford incident.
