Trump leaves door open to US military base in Venezuela

US President Donald Trump has left open the possibility of establishing a US military base in Venezuela or elsewhere in South America.

Axar.az reports, citing The Center Square, that Trump made the remarks on Thursday when asked by reporters whether the United States was considering establishing a military base in Venezuela or another South American country.

'We’re looking at doing a lot of things. We’re getting along very well, as you know. And Venezuela has been a great situation,” Trump said.

Trump said the United States plans to add Venezuelan oil to its strategic reserves at what he described as a low cost.

“We’re taking a lot of oil, and we have a great relationship. And Venezuela’s making a lot of money, and so are we. We’re going to start filling up our national strategic reserves with the Venezuelan oil for very little money, and it’s going to be great," he added.

There are currently no permanent US military bases in South America, according to The Center Square.
