Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian drones attacked a Turkish civilian vessel carrying corn in neutral waters.
Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian media, that Zelensky made the remarks in a post on Telegram.
“Two Russian drones carried out a horrific strike on a civilian vessel in neutral waters. The vessel was Turkish-owned and was carrying corn. Azerbaijani and Indian nationals were on board. Unfortunately, it is now known that the ship’s captain was killed. The fate of another person is being determined. Eleven crew members were rescued, one of whom was injured,” Zelensky said.
He recalled that Ukraine had repeatedly proposed concrete steps to de-escalate the situation and ensure security in the Black Sea.
According to Zelensky, relevant proposals had also been put forward by third countries.
“But Russia consistently chooses terror and the sinking of civilian vessels instead of normal navigation. Pressure must be applied to restore global food security. And everyone who is genuinely interested in this must help,” he concluded.
It should be noted that today, the Turkish-flagged Royad Mammadov, which was carrying grain from Ukraine to Italy, came under a drone attack about 20 nautical miles off the coast of Romania.
