Kazakhstan audits 50 Defense Ministry facilities

An unscheduled audit of budget spending is underway at 50 facilities under Kazakhstan’s Defense Ministry, including 48 military units.

Axar.az reports, citing Kazakh media, that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Supreme Audit Chamber Chairman Alikhan Smailov and was briefed on the progress of the inspections.

Tokayev instructed Smailov to continue the audit thoroughly and improve the oversight system.

A special team of state audit, communications and IT experts is examining military logistics, personnel training, infrastructure, weapons and equipment modernization, and the effectiveness of digital systems.

Smailov also reported that an audit of the state defense procurement system had been completed, with 57 recommendations and directives issued to the government and relevant agencies to address identified violations.

The inspections began after 14 servicemen were killed during military exercises in the Caspian Sea off the Mangystau region on September 24.
