Poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has fallen to near zero following measures to prevent its cultivation and drug production, Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said.

Axar.az reports, citing Afghan media, that speaking at the eighth meeting of the Moscow Format on Afghanistan, Muttaqi said combating drugs was not only a domestic issue but also a regional and international concern requiring cooperation among countries in the region.

He also called for alternative livelihoods for farmers and better access to markets and export opportunities for legal agricultural products.
