Fire breaks out aboard Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier

A fire broke out aboard the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle on Monday while the vessel was undergoing maintenance at the naval base in Toulon, French maritime authorities said.

Axar.az reports, citing Le Figaro, that the fire started shortly before 11:30 a.m. in a small technical room near the aircraft hangar, following welding or torch-cutting work. The flames were brought under control and declared extinguished.

No injuries were reported, and authorities said the incident had no impact on the carrier’s nuclear installations. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

The Charles de Gaulle has been undergoing scheduled maintenance since late August and is expected to remain in the naval base until early December.
