US trade deficit hits highest level since March 2025

The US trade deficit widened to $105.6 billion in August, reaching its highest level since March 2025, according to data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Axar.az reports, citing US media, that the deficit increased from a revised $92.8 billion in July and exceeded market expectations of $102 billion.

The widening was driven by a $17.2 billion surge in imports, which reached a record $420.8 billion. Imports of industrial supplies and materials rose by $9.1 billion, led by crude oil and nonmonetary gold, while capital goods imports increased by $6.2 billion.

Exports also rose by $4.5 billion to $315.2 billion, driven mainly by higher exports of industrial supplies and materials and capital goods. Pharmaceutical exports, however, fell by $2.4 billion.

The August deficit was the largest US trade gap since March 2025.
