Russia attaches great importance to maintaining peace, stability and security in the Caspian region, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that speaking at a briefing on October 6, Ushakov said Moscow supported the sustainable development of the region based on the principles of good-neighborliness and cooperation.

“Our side attaches great importance to maintaining peace, stability, and security in the Caspian region, and its sustainable development based on the principles of good neighborliness and cooperation,” Ushakov said.

He also highlighted environmental protection and ecological security in the Caspian Sea as key priorities. Ushakov said the shallowing of the sea would be among the main issues discussed at the Caspian Environmental Forum in Turkmenistan on October 7.

According to Russian experts, Caspian Sea levels fluctuate cyclically over several decades, with climate processes considered the main factor behind recent changes.
