Turkiye plans troop, air defence deployment to Saudi Arabia

Turkiye plans to deploy additional military personnel and air defence equipment to Saudi Arabia in the coming weeks amid escalating Houthi attacks.

Axar.az reports, citing Middle East Eye, that Ankara has maintained technical teams, air defence systems and electronic warfare equipment in Saudi Arabia since last year to protect critical infrastructure, including energy facilities. Turkish officials said additional equipment, technicians, emergency response teams and combat personnel would be sent to the kingdom.

Further deployments would require authorisation from the Turkish parliament. A limited number of Turkish special forces could be deployed after approval, which officials expect later this month.

Separate sources said Turkiye also plans to deploy an undisclosed number of experienced pilots and aircraft to help counter Houthi drones and ballistic missiles. A senior Turkish official stressed that Ankara did not plan to send a large number of troops or directly intervene in Yemen.

Turkish forces are expected to help defend Riyadh, the holy cities and the western section of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, operating alongside Saudi and Pakistani forces under the Makkah defence pact.
