France summons Iran’s envoy over protest-related claims

France summoned Iran’s ambassador on Wednesday over what it described as a “disinformation campaign” by Iranian authorities concerning student protests in the country.

Axar.az reports, citing France24, that French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux said Iranian officials had spread “misleading content” online about the demonstrations, calling it “absolutely unacceptable.”

"These undignified provocations must cease," Confavreux said.

The move came a day after Tehran summoned French Ambassador Pierre Cochard over what Iran called the “violent treatment” of protesters and alleged human rights violations.

The student protests have intensified in recent days, with clashes reported between demonstrators and security forces. Rights groups, including Amnesty International, have accused French police of using disproportionate force, while Iranian authorities have described the demonstrations as “riots.”
