Iran has intensified its crackdown on anti-government protesters and dissidents at home and abroad, according to a Reuters special report.
Axar.az reports that Iran’s security forces, judiciary and state media have coordinated efforts to suppress dissent following nationwide protests that began in December 2025.
At least 34 people arrested in connection with the protests have been executed since March, according to the United Nations and human rights groups, while thousands more have been detained. Reuters said it could not independently verify all figures.
The crackdown has also extended beyond Iran’s borders. Iranians in Turkiye, Armenia and Georgia told Reuters they had faced threats, passport cancellations, frozen assets and pressure on family members inside Iran over their political activities.
Reuters found that Iranian state media and the judiciary have publicized executions, trials and alleged confessions as part of a campaign that critics say is intended to discourage further protests.
Iran’s mission to the United Nations in Geneva did not respond to Reuters’ detailed questions about the crackdown. The White House defended President Donald Trump’s policy toward Iran, while Israel’s military declined to comment.
