Trump admin suspends Microsoft from green card program

The Trump administration has suspended Microsoft from a program that allows companies to seek green cards for foreign workers, accusing the technology giant of abusing the system.

Axar.az reports, citing The Associated Press, that U.S. Vice President JD Vance announced the decision on Thursday, saying that Microsoft had used the program to replace American workers with foreign employees.

Vance said Microsoft laid off 6,000 U.S. workers last year while obtaining 6,300 H-1B visas and nearly 3,000 green cards.

He accused the company of exploiting a system that requires employers to advertise jobs to American workers before seeking permission to hire foreign employees.

Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The H-1B program, widely used by technology companies, allows U.S. employers to hire foreign workers for highly skilled positions. The Trump administration and its supporters have repeatedly criticized the program, arguing that it can disadvantage American workers.
