Putin brings back ‘General Armageddon’ to target Kyiv

Russian President Vladimir Putin has brought back General Sergei Surovikin, known as “General Armageddon,” as Russia intensifies attacks on Kyiv and targets key infrastructure.

Axar.az reports, citing The Telegraph, that Surovikin has been brought back as Russia seeks to change the course of the war amid difficulties on the battlefield and heavy Russian casualties.

The Telegraph said Russian forces are increasingly targeting Kyiv’s civilian infrastructure, including bridges across the Dnipro River, with the aim of disrupting transport and putting pressure on the Ukrainian population.

According to the report, Kyiv faced 18 air raid alerts on Tuesday, while Russian missiles and drones struck targets across the city.

The Telegraph argues that Moscow may be seeking to shift the conflict from the battlefield to a test of civilian endurance as Ukraine’s air-defense systems face growing pressure.

Surovikin previously commanded Russian forces in Ukraine and was widely dubbed “General Armageddon” for his role in Russia’s military campaign.
