Trump’s diesel deal could earn Russia $6.7 billion

US President Donald Trump’s deal to import Russian diesel could generate up to $6.7 billion in gross revenue for Moscow, potentially strengthening Russia’s war effort against Ukraine while doing little to lower fuel prices in the United States.

Axar.az reports, citing German newspaper Bild, that Russia is expected to supply up to 4.8 million tonnes of diesel to the US over several months, beginning with 300,000 tonnes in October.

At the current market price of around $1,400 per tonne, the full volume could generate approximately $6.7 billion in gross revenue. The actual proceeds will depend on the quantities delivered and the prices secured.

The agreement is based on a US Treasury measure temporarily permitting the sale, delivery and import of Russian-origin diesel into the United States despite existing sanctions.

Fuest warned that if Russia succeeds in delivering the promised volumes, the deal could strengthen Moscow while weakening Kyiv.

It should be noted that the U.S. Treasury Department announced that sanctions on Russian diesel exports had been lifted until April 7 next year.
