Macron faces deep public discontent ahead of 2027 vote

French President Emmanuel Macron’s approval rating has remained near a historic low, with just 15% of respondents expressing a favourable opinion of his performance, according to a new poll by Ipsos bva for La Tribune Dimanche.

Axar.az reports that the survey, conducted on October 7-8 among 1,000 French adults, found that 82% held an unfavourable view of Macron’s performance.

Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu’s approval rating rose by two percentage points to 22%, while 69% of respondents expressed an unfavourable opinion of his performance.

The cost of living remained the leading concern among French citizens, cited by 54% of respondents. Concerns about the future of the social welfare system rose four points to 44%, while worries about public debt and deficits increased three points to 33%.

The survey also revealed widespread economic pessimism. Some 91% of respondents were pessimistic about France’s economic situation, while 86% expected public debt and taxation to worsen. In addition, 87% anticipated a deterioration in purchasing power, and 76% expected employment conditions to worsen in the coming months.
