Zelensky offers 60-day ceasefire to hold elections in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Ukraine is ready to hold elections if Russia agrees to a full 60-day ceasefire.

Axar.az reports, citing ABC News, that Zelensky outlined the proposal in an interview with Jonathan Karl, saying he had already shared the idea with the administration of US President Donald Trump.

“If President Trump really wants to have some changes during elections, I also shared it with his team: please tell Putin, give us two months, 60 days of total ceasefire, and we will organize elections,” Zelensky said.

He added that Ukraine would accept any choice made by its people.

The proposal came after Trump called for Ukraine to elect a new president, arguing that a new leader could reach a deal with Russia. Responding to Trump's remarks, Zelensky said the country's leadership should be chosen by Ukrainian society.

"With all respect to President Trump, it's up to our society, up to our people to choose one or another leader," Zelensky said.

Zelensky also reiterated that Kyiv was ready for a ceasefire and other de-escalation measures, provided Russia halted its attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
