Swiss foreign minister to visit Armenia and Georgia

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis will visit Armenia and Georgia from October 14 to 16 to discuss regional security, the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and bilateral relations.

Axar.az reports, citing the Swiss government, that Cassis will travel to Yerevan on October 15 for meetings with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

The discussions will focus on the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, regional cooperation and the role of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which Switzerland chairs this year.

On October 16, Cassis will meet Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili in Tbilisi to discuss the consequences of the 2008 conflict in Georgia.

Cassis is visiting the countries in his capacity as head of Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and OSCE chairperson-in-office.
