The United Kingdom has summoned Iran’s ambassador and designated two Iranian nationals over their involvement in hostile activities linked to Iran.
Axar.az reports that British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced the measures in a statement on October 12.
Miliband said he had instructed the Foreign Office to summon the Iranian ambassador to reiterate London’s opposition to Tehran’s attempts to undermine UK security through criminal networks, proxy groups and state-backed activities.
"As we have repeatedly made clear to Iran, Britain will not tolerate threats on our soil. Today I instructed my department to summon the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Kingdom to reiterate this message in its entirety," the statement said.
The UK also designated two Iranian nationals for facilitating or engaging in hostile activities on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the stated intent of threatening, planning or carrying out attacks overseas.
Miliband said the government would continue taking action against Iran’s activities and protecting Britain’s national security. He added that the UK had already designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) under its new state-threat powers and imposed sanctions on individuals responsible for Iran’s hostile activities.
It should be noted that 29 countries issued a joint statement against Iran earlier today.
