Romania proposes joint NATO military command in Black Sea

Romania’s Defence Minister Radu Miruta has proposed establishing a joint military command for NATO’s Black Sea littoral states, calling for coordinated action in response to recent security incidents in the region.

Axar.az reports, citing Romanian media, that Miruta said on Wednesday he had proposed to his Bulgarian counterpart signing a joint letter to NATO leadership supporting the establishment of the command.

“The Black Sea needs a joint military command of NATO's littoral states, and we must take steps to achieve this. I proposed to Bulgaria's Defence minister, with whom I held a telephone conversation after the recent Black Sea incidents, the signing of a joint letter addressed to NATO's leadership, in which we would support the two countries' position on establishing such a command, with rotation among all littoral states both in terms of its location and its leadership,” Miruta said.

He said Romania was ready to assume leadership of the command and host the structure on its Black Sea coast from 2028.
