Lavrov proposes holding next 3+3 meeting in Azerbaijan

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said Russia believes the next meeting in the “3+3” format, comprising Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Russia, Turkiye and Iran, could be held in Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that Lavrov made the remarks while speaking to journalists following his participation in the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

“I would mention the format initiated by Azerbaijan and Turkiye, the ‘3+3’ format — Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, along with Russia, Turkiye and Iran. We have met several times, and we are now waiting for Armenia and Azerbaijan to agree on which country will host the next meeting of the group’s foreign ministers,” Lavrov said.

“I believe the next meeting could be held in Azerbaijan, followed by another in Yerevan. That would be the right approach,” he added.

Lavrov said Russia actively supports the format because it is comprehensive and is not focused on a single project intended to be implemented outside the broader regional context.
