Syria’s Jabsa gas pipeline targeted in explosion

An explosion targeted the Jabsa gas export pipeline in southern Hasakah, Syria, on Thursday, causing a fire, Uday al-Setouf, media office director at the Syrian Petroleum Company, said.

Axar.az reports, citing SANA News Agency, that the incident occurred in the Arabidi area, about 60 kilometers from the city of al-Shaddadi. Authorities isolated the area and closed sectional valves on both sides of the damaged site. Emergency teams were working to extinguish the fire before beginning repair work, which was expected to be completed by early next week.

The company said it would use alternative means to supply gas to power plants during the repairs to prevent interruptions. Household gas supplies were unaffected.

Separately, an oil products pipeline running from Baniyas to Homs was recently damaged in an incident in the Hdeideh area, causing an oil leak and the closure of the Homs–Tartus highway in both directions. Repair teams have begun work on that pipeline as well.
