Lukashenko: Ukrainians should decide who leads country

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said US President Donald Trump should not dictate who becomes president of Ukraine, saying that the decision belongs to the Ukrainian people.

Axar.az reports, citing BelTA, that Lukashenko made the remarks while responding to journalists’ questions about Trump’s statement on the need to replace Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“The Ukrainian people will decide who their president will be,” Lukashenko said.

He added that elections should be held and that Zelenskyy should keep his previous promise to serve only one presidential term. Lukashenko said Trump was right about the need to honour promises but stressed that no one should dictate to Ukraine what it must do.
