Two pilots were killed after a single-engine aircraft crashed near Kontariotissa, in Greece’s northern Pieria region, on Sunday.

Axar.az reports, citing Greek Rеporter, that the victims, experienced pilots from nearby villages, were found unconscious outside the wreckage near the Pieria Flying Club’s airstrip in the Xerolakki area. They were taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Emergency services were alerted at around 1:50 p.m. Eight firefighters and four fire engines were dispatched to the scene. No fire broke out following the crash.

Authorities have not released the victims’ identities or determined the cause of the accident. It remains unclear whether the aircraft was taking off, landing or flying over the area when it crashed.
