Death toll from floods in Turkiye rises to six

The death toll from flooding in Istanbul and Kocaeli, Turkiye, has risen to six after the bodies of two more missing people were found.

Axar.az reports, citing TRT Haber, that a man’s body was recovered from Istanbul’s Golden Horn during a search operation involving marine police and a police helicopter. He was identified as 30-year-old Murat Babajanov, a citizen of Turkmenistan, bringing the death toll in Istanbul to five.

In Kocaeli’s Gebze district, rescuers recovered the body of one of two people who went missing after a jeep fell into a stream and was swept away by floodwaters. The victim’s identity has not yet been established, and the search for the other missing person is continuing.

Meanwhile, search operations are ongoing in Istanbul’s Ayazaga district, where a stream overflowed following heavy rainfall on October 14. The flooding damaged numerous homes, businesses and vehicles.

Emergency teams are searching for two missing people along the Ayazaga stream and in the surrounding area. Authorities are also continuing to demolish buildings deemed dangerous along the streambed.
