Iran completes land acquisition for Rasht-Astara railway

Iran has informed Russia that land acquisition for the Rasht-Astara railway section has been completed, with Moscow now awaiting documentary confirmation.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said the issue was discussed during talks between Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Iran’s First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Aref in Dushanbe.

“The negotiation participants exchanged opinions. In the first place, the status of implementation of our North-South project, the construction of the section of the future Rasht-Astara railway was discussed. The Iranian side assured us that the land plots have been bought. We expect documentary confirmation of the buyout,” Overchuk said.

He added that a Russian company was already working on the railway project, which forms part of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

The officials also discussed energy cooperation, construction of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, and construction and transportation in the Caspian Sea, particularly food shipments.
