Russia seeks clarification from Kazakhstan over new entry rules

Russia expects Kazakhstan to provide further clarification on its new entry rules, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that Moscow respects Kazakhstan’s sovereign right to improve its national migration legislation but wants details on how the new rules will be applied to citizens of Eurasian Economic Union member states.

“We respect the republic’s sovereign right to improve its national migration legislation. Since the new provision also affects citizens of Eurasian Economic Union member states, we expect additional clarification from the Kazakh side on its implementation, taking into account existing international agreements,” Zakharova said.

Under a Kazakh government resolution, citizens of Russia and other countries enjoying visa-free entry to Kazakhstan will be required to obtain free electronic entry authorisation at least 72 hours before crossing the border, starting July 1, 2027.

Until that date, the absence of authorisation will not be grounds for refusing entry, although border officials will inform travellers about the requirement.
